Dartmoor in Devon UK is a place of extremes - pure lush greenery turns to harsh and barren scrubland, onwards into fast flowing crystal clear rivers…magic mushrooms flourish and the vast and deeply soulful expanses instil a feeling both of oneness with nature & a true humbling in front of the wildlife and animals. As a youth living in Plymouth, Appleblim & his friends connected deeply with this wild and magical expanse. Helping forge early friendships, collective music making and ritual behaviours, in the early 1990s Dartmoor provided a natural inverse to the explorations in psychedelic guitar music, raving, & early experiments with synths, sampling, and DJ culture that were occurring for him and his friends in Plymouth.

“I feel very blessed to have been given the opportunity to explore this wild land when I was younger, and I still have a dear friend who lives and works on Dartmoor. I visited him during the easing in lockdown over the summer of 2020 and I still feel a deep connection to it. I wanted to explore some of the feelings of awe, fear, respect and admiration that come up for me when I am there. It’s truly a magical and inspiring place and I hope the listener can travel with me through ancient, raw, beautiful but sometimes eerie or even scary places. Making music is like therapy for me and these pieces helped sooth and shape a distressed mind”
